Teen Vogue: Of the shoots you've done for Teen Vogue, which stands out as your favorite?
Bruce Weber: Kristen Stewart for the March 2007 issue. I shot her before Twilight, and at that point she hardly ever wore dresses, but she trusted me enough to do so for the pictures. We just had a good time together being friends. I hope the photos show that happening.

SCENE CHANGE We shot Kristen by the beach in sunny Malibu, California—a far cry from the dreary coastal city of Portland, Oregon, where most of the actress's latest project, the dark thriller Twilight, was filmed. Kristen snagged the leading role after a four-hour audition with indie director Catherine Hardwicke, whose past projects include skateboarding flick Lords of Dogtown and edgy coming-of-ager Thirteen.

YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND Kristen wasn't the only boldfaced name to grace the Teen Vogue set that day, however. Our cover girl was visited by Twilight co-stars and good buds Nikki Reed and Anna Kendrick, who came to offer their clothing commentary and moral support.

STRING AWAKENING She sang and strummed an acoustic guitar for her role as Tracy in 2007's Oscar-nominated hit Into the Wild, but that was no act: Kristen has been playing for years. She's also an avid listener—the actress keeps albums by Radiohead, the Beatles, the Specials, Laura Marling, and Beck on heavy rotation. In fact, music even helped fuel Twilight bonding sessions: "Every member of the cast was musically inclined or interested," Kristen says. British co-star Robert Pattinson—who plays her on-screen vampire love interest, Edward Cullen—even recently took the stage to belt out some tunes at the famed Hollywood nightlife spot Whiskey a Go Go. Robert's stage name? Spunk Ransom. How very punk rock.

KRISTEN, ON NOT KNOWING MUCH ABOUT THE TWILIGHT SERIES BEFORE FILMING:
"Though we were warned, I figured it would be a pretty exclusive fan base. I thought we were making a cult movie; I had no idea it was going to be this, like, phenomenon."

CO-STAR ROBERT PATTINSON, ON KRISTEN: "When I met Kristen, there was instant chemistry. She brought something out of me that I can't even explain."

KRISTIN, ON FASHION: "It's such a bizarre thing, to me, to consider that what I wear, what I do with my hair, affects my career. I'm not the type of person who has a million things in my closet."

CAMPING TRIP: For her first-ever magazine cover shoot, the camera-shy actress met our team at the late Andy Warhol's estate in Montauk, New York. I'm not really a model, she explains, so you kind of have to coax me into it; a lot of times, the photographer says 'Do something interesting,' or asks me 'Why aren't you posing?' But Bruce Weber is great. With him, you get to tell a story instead of just sitting there. He told me to pretend to be a little rich girl who gets sent on Outward Bound.

FAMILY TIES: Tahitian-born Tuki Brando (right) may not be as famous as his grandfather Marlon just yet, but after booking his first major job with Teen Vogue for our March cover story, we're sure it's only a matter of time before the sixteen-year-old makes a name for himself.

JOB PERKS: Tuki traveled to New York with his grandmother Tarita, an actress who starred in 1962's Mutiny on the Bounty with—and then later married—Marlon Brando. As for future plans, Tuki remains undecided. But for now, modeling seems as good a gig as any. It's fun, he says. Everybody takes care of you…and you meet very beautiful girls.
